Your journey begins in Guwhati, the capital of Assam. A bustling, vibrant city full of life, Guwhati is your gateway to this region. Head over to Cherrapunji and explore its stunning natural beauty. Cascading waterfalls, misty mountains and mystical caves make this an intriguing place to visit. Head over to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. Cultural, creative and charismatic, this city will win you over immediately. Plunge into the jungle when you visit Kaziranga, one of India’s best-known national parks. This is a natural habitat for the One-Horned Indian Rhino, tigers, elephants and several species of rare birds and reptiles. Visit tea estates in Jorhat, and tribal communities on Majuli Island. This is a fascinating journey into a region that is one of India’s best-kept secrets!

Begin in Guwahati, the gateway to North East India, where temple visits and a sunset Brahmaputra cruise set the tone for the journey. Continue to Cherrapunjee and Shillong for waterfalls, caves, lakes, viewpoints, and the creative charm of Meghalaya’s hill culture. Travel onward to Kaziranga National Park for unforgettable wildlife encounters before ending in Jorhat, where tea gardens and Majuli’s living traditions bring the expedition to a memorable close.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Guwahati airport, meet your Orange representative and driver and proceed to your hotel. Check-in at the hotel, and relax for a few hours. This evening, embark on a breathtaking sunset cruise along the majestic Brahmaputra River (subject to river conditions).

This morning, visit the ancient Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal hill, dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya. Later, explore Sualkuchi, known as the “Manchester of Assam,” famous for its cottage industries and handloom weaves. This evening, take a fascinating river cruise on the Brahmaputra (subject to conditions).

Check out after breakfast and head to Cherrapunjee. Pause en route to visit scenic Umiam Lake. Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel and evening at your leisure.

After breakfast, explore the stunning natural beauty of Cherrapunjee. Visit the Seven Sisters Waterfalls, Nohkalikai Falls (one of the world’s tallest plunge waterfalls), Mwasmai Cave, Kho Ramhah Rock, and Arwah Cave

(Note: during dry seasons, the waterfalls may not flow as heavily).

After breakfast, travel to Shillong, stopping at Elephant Falls en route. Upon arrival in Shillong, check in at your hotel. After freshening up, set out to visit the Don Bosco Museum, Wards Lake, and stroll through the local market in the evening.

Check out after breakfast and transfer to Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its One-Horned Rhinoceros, wild elephants, felines and diverse birdlife, it’s a haven for wildlife lovers and photographers. Check in to your wildlife lodge and evening at your leisure to relax and soak up the beauty of your surroundings.

Start the day with an exhilarating elephant ride through the park. After breakfast, explore the Kaziranga Orchid Center. Later in the day, head out into the forest on a jeep safari in the western range, stopping at watchtowers for bird-watching.

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Jorhat, renowned for its lush tea gardens. Check in at a tea bungalow. If you are interested, take a guided walk to learn about the history of Assam Tea.

Explore Majuli Island after breakfast, known for its cultural depth and communities steeped in traditions dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Visit Anuati and Uttar-Kamalabari Sattras, and interact with monks to learn more about their way of life. Explore life on the island as you pause to visit Mishing tribal villages, pottery kilns, mask-making villages, and a traditional mustard oil mill. Return to Jorhat for an overnight stay.

(Note: To visit Majuli Island, one has to take a public ferry operated by the local government, which runs according to schedule.)

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Jorhat airport for your onward journey, as you bid farewell to the enchanting landscapes of Assam.
